The Little Rock women’s golf team is set to compete in the Puerto Rico Iguana Invitational, a three-day tournament starting Tuesday in Humaco, Puerto Rico. The event brings together eight teams, including Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Ball State, Georgia State, Tarleton State, Tulane, and Western Carolina.
Head coach Jenna Birch expressed anticipation for the event. “We are excited to play here. This is a tournament our team really enjoys,” Birch said. “The course is great, and it is usually a little warmer here.”
Little Rock comes into the tournament following a strong runner-up finish at the Great River Cup. The team performed well in match play during that event.
“We played very well there, and that is what we want to continue,” Birch said. “We want to keep improving. We worked hard while we were at home to make sure we are prepared.”
Sophomore Iara Martin has been leading the Trojans this spring. She was named OVC Female Golfer of the Month for February after her performance at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate where she tied for 12th place with a score of six-over par at Hammock Creek Golf Club. Her final round included a two-under-par 70. Martin also earned OVC Female Golfer of the Week honors on Feb. 5.
At the Great River Cup, Martin went undefeated in match play with victories over competitors from Louisiana-Monroe, James Madison, and Arkansas State. This effort helped Little Rock achieve another runner-up finish and secured Martin’s second OVC Female Golfer of the Week honor on Feb. 26.
“I am happy for her because she has worked hard to make this happen,” Birch said. “We are excited to see how she will continue to improve the rest of the season.”
The lineup for Little Rock includes Cloé Poizac, Iara Martin, Eleonore Aernouts, Fehild Graesel, and Elvira Flodstrom.
