The Little Rock women’s golf team is set to compete in its third tournament in as many weeks, taking part in the Great River Cup at Windance Country Club in Gulfport, Mississippi. The event begins Monday and marks another stop on a demanding early spring schedule for the Trojans.

After starting their season with tournaments in Florida and Arizona, where they faced strong national competition, the Trojans now return closer to home for this two-day event. The team views this tournament as an opportunity to continue building momentum ahead of their Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) schedule.

“The schedule has been great for us,” said Little Rock head coach Jenna Birch. “It has been challenging and is preparing us for OVC play. We are improving each week and played well last week in a field that included some of the top players in the nation. We are looking forward to this tournament and then going home and working on a few things before we get back into competition.”

The eight-team field features host Louisiana-Monroe, currently ranked No. 71 nationally—the highest ranking among participating teams. Other competitors include Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, James Madison, Memphis, Missouri State University, and Southern Mississippi.

“We are familiar with most of the teams in this field and have competed against them before,” Birch said. “The key for us is to stay focused on our game, execute our plan, and continue improving each time we step on the course.”

Little Rock aims to build on recent individual performances such as that of Elvira Flodstrom, who finished 26th overall at last week’s Thunderbird Intercollegiate after opening with an even-par round.

Throughout the early spring season, the Trojans have made steady progress by gaining experience against high-level opponents while refining their lineup.

The Great River Cup serves as an important opportunity for Little Rock as they prepare for upcoming conference play. After completing this tournament, the team will return home to train before resuming competition later in the season.
