Little Rock sophomore Lara Martin has been named the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Female Golfer of the Week for the second time in three weeks, according to an announcement from the league office on Thursday.
Martin achieved a 3-0 record in match play at the Great River Cup, contributing to Little Rock’s second-place finish, which was tied with Southern Miss. This recognition is her second weekly honor this spring; she previously received the award on February 5 after finishing 12th at the Advance Golfers Collegiate.
“Like I said earlier, this is a long time in the making for Lara,” said Little Rock head coach Jenna Birch. “She has worked hard to get to this point and early in the season is really standing out. She beat some very good players in Mississippi this week and helped lead our team.”
During the tournament, Martin secured a 3&2 win over Louisiana-Monroe’s Daniela Campillo Martinez, followed by a 1UP victory against James Madison’s Bella Flores, and concluded with another 1UP win over Arkansas State’s Carolina Hughes.
“I am grateful again to win this award,” Martin said. “I am happy and appreciate my teammates and coaches for their support. We played well as a team and have something to build on for the rest of the season.”
The Trojans are scheduled to compete next at the Puerto Rico Invitational starting March 3 as they continue their spring season.
