Church of St. John the Baptist – Hot Springs issued the following announcement on Jan. 18.

The Gus Massanelli/Fr. Ralph Bauer Scholarship began through funds donated by Gus Massanelli. Later funding came on behalf of the late Father Ralph Bauer who left a contribution to the Knights to be directed to this scholarship. Today the Knights of Columbus Council 6419 provide this scholarship through their treasury.

Any graduating senior who is a member of St. John’s or St. Mary’s parish, and who plans to pursue an eligible program of study in college or a vocational technical school, may apply for the scholarship.

An eligible program is one, expected to lead to a college degree, or comparable to that contained in the federal vocational legislation. A student should plan to carry a minimum load of 12 semester credit hours each term. High school juniors should not apply.

THIS GRANT IS FOR ONE YEAR ONLY AND IS NOT RENEWABLE

There will normally be one scholarship in the amount of $1000 awarded. The Knights of Columbus scholarship committee may divide the amount awarded when there is more than one exceptionally qualified applicant.

Scholarships are in the form of “Certificates of Award” conditioned upon the student’s submission of evidence of enrollment in an eligible program. Upon receipt of verification of enrollment statement from the school, the Grand Knight (or appointed representative) will cause a check, in the proper amount, to be issued to the student.
